christmas puddings
by tornapart inin our last ca it was said from the platform that the gb has said we shouldn't buy food that is only produced at certain times of the year.
although not specified i imagine they meant turkeys, christmas puddings, easter eggs, hot cross buns etc.
the reasoning that it's attached specifically to pagan festivals.

Maybe that's why I'm "apostate" I've had too much turkey, ham and holiday confections.

Are the Watchtower HQ washing their hands of congregations?
by uk_ex_jw init seems more and more from what i read that if there is problems in congregations (i.e.
paedophilia) the wtbts are washing their hands of any wrongdoing and leaving the congregation and its elder's to carry the can.. is that how it is now?.

It must be God's organization because ...
by biometrics inhow many times have you heard a jw say something along the lines of "this must be god's organization because of [insert reason here]".
most of those reasons could equally apply to almost any organization on earth, including secular businesses.. the most recent one i heard was from an elder trying to convince someone why the watchtower is god's organization.
his reason was because "it [the watchtower] wouldn't have lasted this long without god's backing".

I find it funny how most religious people, but especially witlesses, have to keep reaffirming that they are in the one and only true religion.
When something is right, it's right, and you shouldn't need constant confirmation of that, so why do they?

JW Study, close to baptism, begins to ask questions following our conversation
by uk_ex_jw ini will keep this brief.. a jw study who recently contacted me on facebook, has been to the elder's following a conversation with me in where i outlined my reasons for leaving the wt society.. he originally started asking me why i wasn't a jw anymore and how important it was that i returned to the 'truth' and how the devil was ruling the world and turning people against jehovah's people etc etc.
he was, as you would expect, full of beans and enthusiastic about what he was learning and telling me how he couldn't wait to get baptised now.. he was studying years ago - that is how i knew him.
since then he has been off doing his own thing and now they have managed to rope him back again.. i have explained to him that i do not believe that jw's have the truth, sent him video's, and other evidence, about the paedophilia situation, un scandal, links to the mason's, changed doctrines regarding blood/generation and so forth.. he sent me a reply and said that he wasn't sure anymore and that he agreed with me that the wt society was controlling.

Would this offend you?
by Disillusioned Lost-Lamb ini am remaining "in" for the time being, for my family, so with that said.... i fear my niece (9) and nephew (6) will be assimilated into the borganization therefore i try to covertly undermine their indoctrination hoping that if they choose to be a witless it will be just that, their choice.
regardless of their path, i know my sister and bil will not plan anything for their children's futures, i don't want them to needlessly struggle because they never got the opportunities a normal child wouldve and i believe that, in or out, a higher education at least gives them a chance, i was thinking of secretly starting a small college fund for each of them.. what do you think?
would any of you parents be offended by this?

My reason for this thread was to search for some much needed confirmation, so thank you for the warm replies.
I know I'm probably not going to be "saving" my Mom, Sis or BIL, but I hold out hope for my niece and nephew. If I leave now I can't help at all and they will grow up thinking their auntie is an evil crazy apostate and ignore me. Since I don't want that, my active status is held so I can (hopefully) prove to them that I’m an intelligent person with common sense and a good head on my shoulders, then maybe, just maybe, they’ll listen to me. However if they leave the borg before I do than, fantastic, I'll encourage them; if they choose to drink the kool-aide then I will most likely make my exit knowing there is nothing more I can do. Either way I will support and love them while trying to provide the opportunities witless children do not get, but deserve.
BIG hugs, and thanks again.

I do understand the ramifications of what I'm considering, even if I fade, DA or get DF or one of them fades, DA or gets DF; this is something I will have to feel out over the years, if I can manage to do it.
I just want them to have the option that I know their parents are not going to provide.
